A poco sobre me
Name: Christie Pashby
Location: Bariloche, Patagonia, Argentina
I am a Canadian freelance writer and translator married to an Argentine mountain guide.
I grew up in the wonderful City of Toronto and had a blissful childhood roaming Ontario and the world with my family. We travelled frequently and I quickly fell in love with life in the wild open.
Before setting up home in Patagonia, I lived in Berlin when the wall was coming down in 1990, finished high school in the South of France, did many multi-week canoe trips through northern Ontario, went to McGill University in Montreal, the University of Victoria on Vancouver Island, and King’s College in Halifax, NS.
I studied Spanish in Quito, Ecuador, whitewater kayaked in Chile, saw Machu Picchu on the summer solstice, spent many summers treeplanting in northern British Columbia and a season skiing at Whistler.
After receiving a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor in Journalism, I worked as a news reporter in Costa Rica, where I met mi marido deep in the jungle on the Pacuare River. We maintain a home in lovely Canmore in the Canadian Rockies and operate a custom tour and expedition company.
This website chronicles why I love Patagonia so much.

I am the author of:
Frommers Banff and Jasper National Parks, which is a best-seller and currently in its fourth print.
And co-author of:
Frommer’s Guide to Argentina. I have co-authored both the first and second editions. I cover Mendoza and all of Patagonia, from the Lakes District and Puerto Madryn to Los Glaciares National Park and Tierra del Fuego.
Frommer’s Chile . My territory is all of Southern Patagonia, a place I first visited as a recently-graduated treeplanting backpacker in 1997, chasing a lifelong dream to hike the Torres del Paine.
Frommer’s Best Hikes in British Columbia. My territory here is the Canadian Rockies, Purcells, Selkirk and Kootenay Mountains. I also authored all anchoring chapters.
I’ve been fortunate to get to know two amazing parts of the world intimately. Both are places with rich wilderness and mountains, hardy and insightful folks and clean air. I’ve made a career as a local expert on both.
I am currently working on my sixth title for Frommer’s guidebooks, still amazed that my career has taken me down this unanticipated path. Besides travel, my writing namely covers food and wine and adventure, although I also dabble in poetry and politics. My freelance writing has appeared in many major newspapers and magazines and I am a contributing travel writer to many web’zines’ and industry sites.
I am also a freelance translator and have translated a select list of upscale tourism websites, and lately, have branched out into feature film translation for independent film companies based in Argentina.
